“With the weather getting too hot to exercise outside now, this announcement has come at the right time. This is also great news for Fitness Professionals. They have been eager to get back to work and doing what they love-motivating and inspiring individuals to reach their fitness goals,” Catherine Hanson Farid, director of operations for REPs, tells Gulf News.
While you may be eager to utilize the gym and sports facilities, there are some essential guidelines issued by Dubai Sports Council, which you must know. Here’s the lowdown
- Gyms will function with a 50 percent capacity.
- Practically everyone gym goers, trainers, and staff will have their temperature checked-if its above 37.5 degrees; you’ll not be allowed inside.
- Avoid going to the gym if you have a cough, difficulty in breathing, running a high temperature, having respiratory disease, or immunodeficiency – you’ll not be allowed to participate in any sports activities.
- Be aware that all sports, gym equipment, and means of transport will be sanitized.
- Sports and gym facilities will provide you with hand sanitizers.
- At all times, maintain a physical distance of two meters with people around you.
- For increased protection, acrylic dividers will be installed between sports equipment.
- You’ll not be able to use waiting rooms, lockers, showerbaths, and changing rooms. They’ll remain closed.
- If you’re a trainer or instructor, you’re not allowed to gather in an area.
- Take heart! Restrooms and toilets will be sanitized after each use.
- You’ll have to wear a face mask while working out in the gym or sports facility.
- Frequently used equipment will be sanitized.
All that’s great to hear, but it would be wise to follow certain precautions to protect yourself from coronavirus.
“Sweat cannot transmit the virus but high-contact surfaces can,” says Dr. David Thomas, director of the Division of Infectious Diseases at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine to The New York Times. So you’ll have to be cautious about all types of exposure.
It’s good to clean any gym equipment before using it. Ask the staff members or even better carry your cleaning supplies. Also, you can bring cleaning wipes because you’ll know the right concentration of alcohol in them.
As a precautionary measure, wipe down the equipment after every block and ask for a new wipe if you run out of your supplies.
Avoid frequently handled equipment and machines. Often wash your hands, or use a hand sanitizer, and never touch your face.
When you’re out in the gym, maintain a safe distance from other people, and never share your cups and water bottles. If you’ve achieved a milestone, avoid high fiving-celebrate with elbow bump instead.
