Over AED350,000 worth of cash and prizes was handed out at the climax of the highly successful first ever Corporate Sports Championship Dubai on Saturday February 23rd.
Among the winners were some of the UAE’s top local and global companies such as du, Boston Consulting Group and PwC.
But away from the limelight there was a host of participating companies we would like to highlight.
Most Travelled Team
Both NAFFCO and Boston Consulting Group wanted as many employees as possible to enjoy the ultimate sports day experience, so they flew employees in from KSA to bolster their team.
NAFFCO edged this award as they organized six buses from all Emirates to transport employees from all over the UAE, impressive team building efforts from the fire safety experts.
The bond between travelling team-mates certainly showed on the field with NAFFCO participating in 12 sports and performed extremely well in all of them: Badminton, Ninja Warrior Challenge, Climbing, Foosball, Basketball, Team Building, Tennis, Tootball, Table Tennis and Cricket.
Another special mention for NAFFCO’s HR Director Omar Fakhira who was at the Corporate Sports Championship on both days to make sure all went smoothly and encourage his colleagues.
All Round Nice Guys & Gals Award
The team in green made friends wherever they went over the weekend.
They already won the Team Discipline award for overall best Sportsmanship across the weekend, but we felt they needed another shout-out as the plaudits flowed in from officials, referees, organisers and even opponents about how BCG conducted themselves over the weekend.
Recently named in the Top 10 in Forbes’ best places to work, they are obviously a happy band of workmates and they spread the goodwill all weekend, taking part in seven sports and activitiesincluding Football, Volleyball, Tennis, Padel Tennis, Ninja Warrior, Team Building, Table Tennis as well as the football challenges.
And disproving the old adage that nice guys finish last they performed extremely well finishing with a record-breaking time of 35seconds in the Ninja Warrior Fitness Challenge, runners up in the Football tournament, fourth in mixed Volleyball, second in men’s Tennis and reaching the quarter finals in men’s Table Tennis.
The Swiss-based instrumentation and process automation leaders may have only had twenty participants but they were in perpetual motion all weekend as they took part in a total of 14 sports.
Team Captain and Business Development Manager Abhijit Wadhwa was a blur as he raced from match to match, personally taking part in seven sports and activities: Padel Tennis, Foosball, Ninja Warrior Fitness Challenge, Team Building, Climbing, Cricket and Badminton.
We’re sure they slept well on Saturday night!
Keenest Trainers Award
Waqas Nazir and Deoclecio Juniour from Driven Properties usually train together on Fridays and just because they were at the Corporate Sports Championship they didn’t want to miss out on their weekly run.
So in the middle of the action on Friday they took the opportunity to do a short training run around the state of the art Swiss International Scientific School track – a cool 10 kilometres!
They set a pretty good pace as well – notching up 25 laps in just 54 minutes.
The Need for Speed Award
We can’t round off our “Notable Mentions” without a shout out for the Securitas pair who pulled off a speedy double by winning both the women’s and men’s track and field events.
In the women’s race it was Chiara Nardi who came out on top while in the men Friday Gabriel outclassed the rest of the field, also taking home the Track & Field MVP award.
So if you ever have any security needs – give Securitas a call. They will be there superfast!
